BHRT May Provide Relief from Joint Pain

Hormonal imbalance is responsible for many of the symptoms of menopause, including joint pain. Many women overlook joint pain as a symptom of menopause, chalking it up to growing older or to the onset of a form of arthritis. While joint pain is related to growing older, it doesn’t have to be. It is still unknown why fluctuating hormones during menopause cause joint pain. Although it is thought that estrogen is strongly related to pain, exactly how the system works is still not entirely clear. What is known is that women who use bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) tend to have significantly less joint pain than women who don’t undergo BHRT. It seems that the benefits of BHRT can help alleviate symptoms for women who may be genetically prone to arthritis and other causes of joint pain.
