Eating Right with Thyroid Disease

It should come as no surprise that a diet rich in cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, kale, cabbage, and Brussels sprouts plays a significant role in the quest for good health. However, if you are one of the 27 million Americans affected by thyroid disease, specifically hypothyroidism, this form of veggie consumption may not always have a beneficial effect on your thyroid health. Hypothyroidism is a common disorder in which the thyroid gland does not produce enough of the thyroid hormone for your body to utilize. Unfortunately, the condition can come with unpleasant symptoms such as weight gain and fatigue. While experts do agree that cruciferous vegetables have a number of health benefits, when it comes to the thyroid, some experts believe that eating these go-to veggies in their raw form may amplify and worsen the symptoms associated with hypothyroidism.
